Dad Carter would have loved
it. The 3rd generation Chuck Wagon Gang was in the Nashville
studios recording with many of the country music legends and
Grand Ole Opry stars like the Oak Ridge Boys, George Jones,
Ricky Skaggs, the Gatlin Brothers, 'Whisperin' Bill
Anderson, John Conlee, and many others, celebrating and
almost unheard of 70 year anniversary as a gospel singing
group. The amazing part is that the current group sounds
just like the group he put together almost 70 years ago.
Back then the group consisted of Dad, his two eldest
daughters, Rose and Anna and his oldest son, Jim.
David P. Carter always insisted on a clear, uncluttered,
four part harmony, mixed quartet with just a minimum of
string accompaniment. That is exactly what today's group
sounds like under the watchful eye of Dad's great
granddaughter, Shaye, a real purist when it comes to the
Gang's distinctive and unique sound. Of course, they are
still singing those 'old' songs, ever mindful of Dad's
advice, "Sing the lold songs and sing 'em like I taught
you."
If you haven't hear the Chuck Wagon Gang of the 21st
century, you'll be amazed as they transport you to another
time and place when life wasn't so hectic and things just
seemed more simple. Close your eyes and listen to the
strains of Dad's new 'old' group as they sing you to another
world. |
